"Water's Edge" was inspired by summers paddling at Fairystone Lake and Philpott Lake, investigating the edge of the water while the rest of the family fished. It is a print that brings the view to the interface of the surface and the underwater world of a lake. At first glance, the slider turtle can be seen taking a breath of air while a catfish swims just below. The top of the water has cut away at the bank, exposing moss covered tree roots and time-worn pebbles. Following aquatic plants down to the bottom of the water, with close inspection, a crawdad can be found hidden underneath an old log. What else could be living in the recesses of the plants in this freshwater ecosystem?
"Water's Edge" prints are 11" x 15". The original block was hand-drawn, hand-carved on 3/4" birch plywood and printed on mulberry paper with a deckled edge. The multi-color prints were created through a reduction method. The image was hand-drawn, hand-carved on the initial block and the first color was printed on each sheet in edition. More of the same block was carved away so the second color could be printed on each sheet. The process of carving and printing was repeated for each color until the final layer was printed. After the last print was pulled, another edition can never be made because of the block was carved away through the process.
A limited edition of 16 were pulled.
